U.S. to Help Unblock Hormuz Strait, Says Trump

(MENAFN) The United States is moving to address mounting shipping congestion in the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday, days after brokering a two-week ceasefire with Tehran.

"There will be lots of positive action! Big money will be made. Iran can start the reconstruction process," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

In a follow-up post, he added: "We'll be loading up with supplies of all kinds, and just 'hangin' around' in order to make sure that everything goes well."

The announcement came just 24 hours after Trump confirmed he had agreed to halt U.S. bombing and military operations against Iran for a fortnight. Prior to that declaration, he had issued a stark ultimatum — demanding Tehran reopen the strategically critical waterway by 8 p.m. Eastern Time Tuesday (0000 GMT Wednesday), or risk precision strikes on its energy infrastructure.

Trump framed the diplomatic window as an opportunity for regional renewal, invoking what he called a potential "Golden Age of the Middle East" while signaling sustained American presence to safeguard the vital shipping corridor.

The escalation traces back to February 28, when the U.S. and Israel launched a coordinated military offensive against Iran. The campaign has since claimed more than 1,400 lives, among them then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has responded with waves of drone and missile strikes on Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states harboring U.S. military installations. Iranian authorities have also moved to choke off maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz — a chokepoint through which roughly a fifth of the world's oil supply flows daily.
